APPLES

Apples are in season still. If you haven't canned applesauce, made your own apple juice, apple pie filling, or jam you may be missing out. My thoughts on this... it costs money to buy all the things you need to can! If you can get some of your supplies used and the apples as close to free as possible, then this is an excellent way to save money. It could pay off to buy new if you really enjoy canning and do lots of it! There are lots of ways to go about getting apples free. I use to have the most amazing golden delicious tree in my backyard in a past house. I miss it more then you know! It was a great money saver! They take a while to grow but you won't regret planting fruit trees. Another way, get cozy with your neighbors friends and family to see if they need someone to share with. They might just want you to help yourself so their fruit doesn't go to waste. Also, I have seen posts on my local online newspaper classifieds for people to come pick their own. Check your classifieds and if your local paper doesn't have an online classifieds see if they might want to do so! This is great place to barter and get things cheap! Speaking of apples they are awesome in many different ways but another creative idea is to use it in a main dish. Here is a recipe link.
